Excursions
Walks along the mountains in Bagolino are good for several itineraries. Destinations are up to personal sensibility and “good legs”. Mountain lovers can discover new paths, even new, that will always heighten the spirits, providing that emotion in the quiet of the mountains, that make feel men close to God and in harmony with the creation mystery.


To Bruffione’s Lake

Geological soil: Tertiary age formations.
Rocks: Tonalite signed by the action of glacier erosion from the Quaternary age.
Trail: approx. 1.30 hours, departing from Gaver.
Path: easy.


Arrived in Gaver (1,500 mt a.s.l.) the mule track on the right hand side of the road must be taken. Passed the bridge, after a hundred meters there is Malga Vaimane. Proceeding the path, arrival to a valley covered with fir trees (Vendolaro di Bruffione) and after about an hour walking arrival to “golèt” from Bruffione (small passage on the rock). Here wide and green appears a marvellous valley with a stream running. Our itinerary proceeds towards the end of the Valley, where once trespassed the bridge, arrives to Lower Malga Bruffione (1,754 mt s.l.). Skirting the river thru the small path, after a quick slope, arrival to the small lakes. If fortunate we may even see on its waters the “sanguinaröl”, typical fish of high altitude.



Bruffione’s Mount (2,665 mt a.s.l)
Named also: Corno Busecca (A), Seroten Peak, Malghetta Mount.

Trail: approx. 5 hours, departing from Gaver.
Path: medium difficulty.


Arrived in Bruffione’s Valley, the mount’s peak can be reached by following the signed path number 25. Proceeding further from Lower Malga Bruffione, after skirting the stream and trespassed another valley, arrival to Malga Casaöle (1,974 mt. a.s.l). From this point, the path follows until arriving a huge heap of stones (tiringly) towards the mountain peak. Before the top, at eighteen pass, the itinerary number 357 that comes from Trentino is crossed (Apeta Valley).

Sanguinera Valley (Sanguinera Malga 1548 mt a.s.l.)

Geological soil: Palaeozoic age formations.
Trail: approx. 3.30 hours, departing from Gaver.
Path: medium easy.

This valley and it’s river is the destination of beautiful excursions. The itinerary begins climbing from the left hand side of the church of Valle Dorizzo, where once taken the mule track enters to the Valley. Following the path, vision is widen to the nearby mountains (Laione Crest’s, Colombine Mount, Corna Blanca, Frerore Mount). Arrived into Sanguinera Malga, the left hand side path can be taken to arrive to Rondenino Mount, or taking the right hand side path that leads to Cadino Valley. Arrived to Gaver’s Goletto (1,783 mt. a.s.l.) if legs are restless, hitchhiking is allowed on the street of Croce Domini.


To the Bear’s Puddle (1,636 mt a.s.l – length: 50 mt. width: 27 mt.)

Geological soil: Palaeozoic age formations, morainal remains .
Trail: approx. 3 hours, departing from Valle Dorizzo.
Path: medium easy.

The “lake”, almost unknown destination, included in the lower waters of the Sanguinera stream, gives visitors the pleasure of novelty. The “Bear’s Puddle” itinerary departs from the left hand side of the Valle Dorizzo Church. To arrive it is needed to take the mule track, passing thru a group of dairy farms (some with slate roof). From this point, there is still a twenty minute walk. At “Sèreze” town, there is a small branch that must be followed by the left hand side, the other one takes to Valle Sanguinera. The new path gets across the Sanguinera stream, offering beautiful landscapes and proceeds, sometimes steep and sunken, until Malga Bromino di Fondo (1,541 mt s.l) and Middle Bromino (1,671 mt s.l). Not so far away from the Malga, climbing from the right hand side we find the suggestive water mirror.



Mignolo Small Lakes (1,848 mt a.s.l)

Geological soil: Palaeozoic age formations, in particular reddish sandstone.

Lower Mignolo (length: 180 mt. width: 130 mt. depth: 12,90)
Upper Mignolo (length: 168 mt. width: 160 mt. depth: 7,70)

To arrive these lakes of glacier origin, the path near to the Vaia Pass can be taken, north direction, running in the higher areas, on the left hand side of the valley. This way Malga Mignolino is reached, where the first lake appear. The path follows until arriving the second lake, placed as balcony a little bit down.
Lakes are surrounded of rocks and reddish sand, that according to scientist testimonies in ancient times a desert continent that would cover the areas where nowadays are located the southern alps (Lombardia, Trentino, Piemonte and Venice) disappeared about 225 millions of years ago.

Alternative

The Mignolo Lakes may be reached by following the itinerary that takes to the Bears Puddle until Bromino’s Malga, from there on crossing the “Bùs del Gat” Pass accompanied with the breathtaking landscapes arrival to Mignolo Lakes.


Cornelle Pass (2,050 mt. a.s.l.)

Geological soil: Palaeozoic age formations, prevalence of volcanic rocks.
Trail: approx. 6 hours, departing from Valle Dorizzo.
Path: medium easy.

This is a very interesting excursion suggested to the ones that love to walk at good pace and loves the high mountain green meadows. Walk may begin from Valle Dorizzo, where the path to High Balotto is taken. Proceeds thru the pastures until arriving to Cornelle Pass, where the overview opens, splendid and majestic, over the Trentino’s buttress. Return may be done by taking the path of the Big War that takes to Bruffione.
Once overtaken the small passage of Bruffione, descending by the left hand side, the path that takes to Villa Roma, surrounds of Valdorizzo, must be taken.

Alternative 1

The excursion is wonderful, better say spectacular, even if done in the opposite sense. Leaving from Cerretto; it’s important to mention that this is a long excursion, and lasts a whole journey. Once arrived in Cerretto it is possible to proceed by car to Riccomassimo. At “Prize” town the street to Tonolo must be followed, when arriving in the “Valetie” area turn into the road that takes to “Ermos”, in Fontana and Carena Mount. The landscape here offers breathtaking views of Idro’s Lake. Proceeding towards Telegraph’s Mount and Cornelle Pass, turning into the military road, arrival to Bruffione’s Lake and from there along the mule track to Gaver.

Alternative 2

Carena Mount (excluded Cornelle Pass).
To arrive in Carena Mount, by searching other foreshortening landscapes, departure may be made from Bagolino. Turning into the small road that begins back from the “Rest Home”, passing by Colega and Fontana arrival to Carena Mount, where the cross seems to embrace protectively the town extending along the Valley.

Alternative 3

Carena Mount (excluded Cornelle Pass).
Departure from “Frèi Basso” town. The path leads in about three hours, after passing the Doletèn Malga, to Carena Mount.



Vaia Lake (1910 mt. a.s.l – length: 260 mt, width: 130 mt, depth: 5,80 mt.)

Geological soil: Palaeozoic age formations.
Trail: approx. 4 hours.
Path: medium difficulty.

The Vaia Lake was well known for trout fishing. It is said that trouts had the skin covered with fine golden scales, that villagers attributed to the presence of a gold vein hidden in the mountains.
Departing from Bagolino the lake may be reached (among other possible itineraries) by crossing the bridge over Caffaro in the area of mignano. From there, proceeding on the right hand side along the road of Destrone, until the “Bree” barns. The path follows left from the stream and after crossing a couple of small bridges, following right from the junction. Passed the Miclí and Acquaeta barns, arrival to the Vaia di Fondo Malga, Mezzo (1869 mt a.s.l.) and Vaia Lake. Preferred destination for sport fishing lovers.



From Vaia to Crocedomini Pass

Geological soil: Palaeozoic age formations with prevalence of silica terrains.
Trail: approx. 2 hours.
Path: easy.

From Vaia Lake it is possible to take the path that takes to Crocedomini Pass, among other pleasant overview. Excursion proceeds towards the top of Mignolino Mount (2203 mt. a.s.l.) from where it is possible to see its malga. Following the ridge, arrival to Rondenino Mount (2987mt. a.s.l.) and then to Crocedomini Pass.



Vacca Lake (2357 mt. a.s.l.)

Geological soil: Tertiary age formations with tonalite and granodiorite slabs
Trail: approx. 2.30 hours.
Path: do not represent particular difficulties.

This excursion that runs along the Adamello’s buttress can begin either from Corna Bianca (thru Gaver’s passage and Crocedomini Pass) or from Gaver (by the small church). If choosing the last alternative, follow the path number 17, after the Lower Laione and Mezzo Malgas (1827 mt. a.s.l.) proceed by the eastern stream from Laione Mount until reaching the lake.

Alternative
Departing from Corna Bianca, proceed along the path that zigzag climbs under the Laione’s peak, widening almost horizontally until arriving to the lake. The excursion offers breathtaking landscapes of the surrounding valleys: Cadino, Frerone Mount, Terre Fredde Top.
Further away from Vacca Lake, that take the name form a huge stone that watched in distance seems to represent a cow, the excursion proceeds among big tonalite slabs followed by crystal clear water mirrors finally arriving to the G. Rosa Refuge (open all year around, managed by CAI)



From G. Rosa Refuge to Blumone’s Peak

Blumone’s Peak it’s reached from the refuge. The path number 1, from now on turns difficult, kindly pay attention to gravel and snowy segments that could be frozen. Follow along precipices and overhanging. Fatigue is rewarded by the magnificent view that opens wide showing the nearby peaks and valleys.



To Termini Pass – Black Lake

Geological soil: Secondary age formations.
Trail: approx. 5 hours departing from Gaver
Path: medium easy.

The path that climbs up from the heights of Caffaro’s Valley, departing from Nikolajewka refuge (managed by Bagolino’s CAI), touches first Blumone’s Malga and Casinello di Blumone (2014 mt a.s.l.). Towards the end of the excursion, along the mule track that passes thru enormous rocks, remains of military construction recalling the First World War may be found. Shortly after, Termine Pass is reached. This pass communicates with Trentino (Val Daone). From Serodine Pass (reached by taking the right hand side path from Casinello di Blumone) the Black Lake can be seen, with its leaden reflex to the dark grey rocks and deep precipices that surround semi-circling the Lake.



From Termine Pass to Listino Mount

The itinerary leads thru military remains, crosses the Adamello’s Way (path number 1) and takes directly to Listino Mount. The landscape gets widen over the nearby top dominated by Blumone’s Peak.



Desdana Lake (1875 mt. a.s.l.) and “Plagnè de Chèmpel”

Geological soil: Palaeozoic age formations.
Trail: approx. 5 hours. To “Plagnè de Chèmpel” about 3 hours.
Path: easy.

The lake may be reached with the path that departs from Selva Bridge in Bagolino. Leading first to “Barard” town, from there on by foot thru camps and barns in “Spenàl” arriving finally to “Plagnè de Chèmpel”. This is a delightful place, hosting a fresh cascade and the Desdana river that runs thru forest and pasture areas. After a short rest, proceed towards the lake. Taking the left hand path (close to the pine forest) and climbing up the conifer woods enjoying wonderful overviews arrival to the light blue Desdana Lake, that provides traces of ancient plants for the local studies of palaeontology.


To Desdana (1875 mt. a.s.l.), Ravenole (1920 mt. a.s.l),
Lavena (1972 mt a.s.l.) and Vaia Lakes (1910 mt a.s.l)

These lakes are reached by walking along the path that passes by Maniva and Bonardi Refuge, thru the ridges of Valtrompia and Valcamonica. Along the way, at short distance, thru the green camps contrasting with the grey stones and chatty streams the lakes await. These lakes testimony ancient man presence. At Ravenole’s Lake, several handcrafts have been found, dating back to the Mesolithic period. Following towards Crocedomini, it is possible to arrive to Vaia Lake.



To the Little Church of Saint Gervasio and Protasio

Geological soil: Palaeozoic and secondary age formations.
Trail: approx. 1 hour.
Path: medium - easy.

This panoramic excursion is right for children too. Feet climbing the path that departs from Romanterra’s bridge the little Church may be reached. An option is to arrive by car until seeing the sign that indicates the way to San Gervasio, located near to the “Maifrí” barn. The path proceeds along the camps, passing by a beautiful wood, where if hikers are lucky mushrooms can be found.


Levras-Baremone

Trail: approx. 4 hour.
Path: Enough strenuous.

This is a wonderful excursion, hardly known, offers breathtaking landscapes. After the Romanterra’s Bridge, turn into the way to “Levras” until the Benini barn. From there on, the path take us to “Pozze” town located in the watershed that divides Sabbia’s from Caffaro’s Valley. Proceeding by the left hand side, the view opens wide panoramically over the whole Caffaro’s Valley. This path takes us to “Giös”, structure for bird hunting, to the Cima Ora fort (with testimony of military remains 1915-1918) and later on to the road that takes to Baremone. Before leaving for this excursion, it is important to carry along water as it’s scarce in the area.


Berga and Dosso Alto

Trail: approx. 3 hour.
Path: Easy.

Departure for such unusual excursion is from Romanterra, where the road until “Angoa” area may be followed. Proceeding by feet along the street that gets across the woods until reaching Berga Malga. Surrounds host rare flower species. The path climbs thru pasture lands and takes to Dosso Alto Malga, were the view shows the Pre-alp peaks that descend to Idro Lake. The itinerary proceeds until joining the Baremone’s road.
